UPDATE FROM PASTOR JOYCE AND THE CONSISTORY
To all who read this message, greetings to you from Old Saratoga Reformed Church. We hope this finds you and your families doing as best you can in this time of uncertainty as we (and our nation and world) deal with the continuing rapid spread of the corona virus.
We (the consistory) wanted to inform you that as of Monday evening, we have suspended Sunday worship services and all other church activities at Old Saratoga for an indefinite time. The church office is also closed until further notice, though we will be checking emails and phone calls.
We did not make this decision lightly, as we recognize the value and importance that comes with meeting together in person to reflect and draw hope and strength from our faith in God and our spiritual traditions; but in this situation, where the health of our entire community is at risk—particularly among our older people and those with existing or immuno-compromised conditions, we are heeding the advice of the state and local health professionals and our classis and synod leaders, to stay home in order to help slow the spread of this disease for the good of everyone—especially those at risk.
We encourage everyone to follow the suggested protocols for good hygiene and physical distancing, and to keep informed about the constantly changing new developments. We also urge you, as you take care of yourselves and your families, to also check on your neighbors, church family, and others you know who may live alone or may need a friendly phone call—or help with getting groceries, or picking up medicines etc.
Though we will not be gathering or meeting face to face for the time being, we want everyone to know the church in not “closed”. Our day to day ministry goes on, as people pray and care for each other and support local efforts to encourage, assist and direct people to resources. As always, we welcome your ideas and suggestions for helping people feel connected during this time of being apart!
We (including our church treasurer!) are deeply appreciative of all who are willing to mail in their weekly offerings and donations to help the church meet its financial obligations and pay its ongoing bills.
We’re in the process of arranging an on-line abbreviated service for this coming Sunday morning at 10 AM and hope to have a live stream on the church Facebook page.
In Isaiah 41:10 it is written: “… do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you…” May these words sustain our faith through this anxious and difficult time, and help us work together for the safety
and well being of all God’s children.
